Father's Day: The Fathers Who Show Up

Father's Day can be a beautiful celebration, but if we're being honest, it can also be complicated.

For some, it's breakfast in bed, handmade cards, and family cookouts. For others, it's grief, disappointment, distance, or the ache of a relationship they wish looked different.

Today, I'm thinking about the fathers who show up.

The dads who work long hours and still make it to bedtime stories. The grandfathers who stepped in when they didn't have to. The uncles, stepdads, mentors, coaches, and father figures who chose to love, guide, and protect.

Being a father isn't just a title. It's a commitment. It's showing up again and again, even on the hard days.

And for those who are carrying hurt today, whether because of loss, absence, or strained relationships, I see you too.

Holidays don't always fit neatly into greeting card messages, and that's okay.

Today, I'm choosing gratitude for the people who have shown up consistently and loved well. The ones whose presence became a safe place. The ones who taught us lessons we'll carry for a lifetime.

To every father and father figure doing their best: thank you.

Before I close, I want to give a special Father's Day shout-out to my dad.

He has been an incredible father, mentor, and source of wisdom throughout my life. No matter my age, I know I can call him for guidance, encouragement, or simply a reminder that I'm capable of more than I think. His love has never been conditional, and his presence has always been steady.

Real-life superhero moment: The day I discovered my dad's secret side as "Blade" ready to take on the world with a giant smile and a larger-than-life backpack!

He's also an amazing PopPop to my children. They adore him, and I am grateful every day that they get to experience the same love, patience, and support that I did growing up.

People often say it takes a village to raise children, and I am thankful that my children have a grandfather who shows up wholeheartedly. Because of him, we are not lacking in love, guidance, or family. His impact reaches across generations, and that is a gift I never take for granted.

Happy Father's Day, Dad. We love you more than words can say.
